When you choose to drive carefully, the chances of being involved in a road accident decrease considerably. The specific methods of such driving allow you to control much better the vehicle, especially in the conditions in which you drive a heavy vehicle. Here are the most important recommendations that drivers should take into account:

Always wear a seat belt

It is a recommendation for absolutely all traffic participants, because wearing a seat belt saves thousands of lives every year. Not only drivers must wear it while driving, but also other passengers. Therefore, each driver must ensure that all passengers in the vehicle wear a seat belt.

Focus on traffic dynamics

"Caution behind the wheel" is a basic concept of preventive driving. You have to show concentration and responsibility, every time you drive, either inside or outside the city. It is extremely important to be aware of your presence in traffic: the road conditions in which you have to drive (traffic, climatic extremes, speed, etc.), the way in which the other participants behave in traffic. This ability allows you to react much better in optimal time, in case of situations that can produce an unwanted road event.

Get behind the wheel only when you are rested

Fatigue inhibits a driver's ability to react when driving. Moreover, such a condition can cause falling asleep behind the wheel and the production of road events that can be fatal for traffic participants. Statistics clearly show that driving fatigue is one of the most important causes for accidents. So, do not start your trip if you feel tired and take a break when you are experiencing a state of severe fatigue.

Avoid talking on the phone while driving

There are a lot of technological solutions, designed to allow communication while driving, without manually operating a mobile device. Handsfree devices and connecting the mobile phone (via Bluetooth) to the car's audio system are the best answers in this regard. It is recommended to keep both hands on the steering wheel, as long as the vehicle is moving.

Keep your distance from other vehicles

Depending on the vehicle’s speed, the optimal distance towards the front vehicle is calculated as follows: there should be at least 2 seconds before the vehicle behind reaches the point where the front vehicle is currently. Experts say that under such conditions, braking can be done safely. Obviously, the speed is a decisive element in avoiding a collision, as a result of not respecting distance between vehicles.

Do not drink alcohol before getting behind the wheel

Moreover, drivers should seek the advice of a specialist regarding the use of certain drugs with side effects before getting behind the wheel. There are medications that can cause drowsiness and other conditions that can alter a driver's ability to make the best decisions when in traffic.
